MALAWIIII is a cultural event that combines modern art, music, photo reportage and sport for getting to know Malawi better.
MALAWIIII developed from the fortunate meeting between Di+, the Alleluya Band (a gospel music group of Malawi), Pang'ono Pang'ono (a voluntary association led by Rosignano Solvay from Livorno) and father Mario Pacifici a missionary from Monforte who has been established in Malawi for thirty-two years.
MALAWIIII is an exhibition made up of three installations:
20 IN COLOR a photographic reportage by Giovanni Diffidenti with texts by Giovanna Bertelli. "20 in color" weaves among houses, bars, hospitals and the daily life of people showing their work, music, games and parties as well as hunger, malnutrition, Aids and corruption, in a spellbinding setting. The background music is composed of songs by the Alleluya Band, a mixture of Reggae music, African rumba and Italian songs from the seventies contaminated with the sounds of the streets in Malawi for the occasion.
80 VOICES a video installation by Laura Morelli where the Malawi people speak of their lives. The artist interviews eighty people on the streets asking them to answer three simple questions: Who are you? What is Malawi for you? What is your dream? The answers open an entire world, where collective aspirations, national problems and personal dreams emerge.
WHAT I HAVEN'T GOT three-dimensional portraits by Laura Morelli that materialize some of the social models of the people of Malawi illustrating the strong gap between what they are and what we are.
This installation was designed and realized for CIRCUITING along various principles of sustainability:
+easy set up
+minimum encumbrance during transportation
+modular installation, therefore with the possibility for partial exposition
