- A woman’s shameful part. A common way of stating: of course, without a doubt. It is also an extremely popular exclamation that we use. Capperi! Cappita! Cachitra! Cappiterina! - (Antonio Tiraboschi, Dialetti bergamaschi antichi e moderni (Old and modern dialects from Bergamo) ed. 1873, tipografia editrice F.lli Bolis)
2004-2005 Bergamo, a small town in Northern Italy with over 100,000 inhabitants, situated in one of the three richest and most productive regions of Italy. One of the first twenty provincial cities for wealth in Italy. Like all cities, it has a train station and a bus station, that are some of the historical stopping places of the excluded populous. From the station a line of male and female prostitutes, customers, social workers, lawyers, nuns and priests, voluntary workers, drug addicts, doctors, organizations, institutions, commuting workers, residents and students unravels. Giovanni Diffidenti began his research at the station, developing a photo-reportage on marginalization that concentrates on the people who live at the station. The attention of Laura Morelli was focussed on prostitution and she collected interviews, which, from the station took her to other environments, not always as problematic. The two works begin in the same place, but they take different roads, meeting with people and places in relation to the development of their research. Seen together it is a complex and integrated scenario where stories, people and places interweave and form a city that is difficult to digest, fluctuating, unsure, violent, full of suffering but also abounding in criticism, moved to the margins and obstinately kept secret. The days and nights are cadenced by the geographies of transhumance: shifting around from one place to the next in an underground pathway of a city inside a city.
OBJECTIVES To present queries to the city, to stimulate a debate, to trigger a path of knowledge and comprehension, not sectional but diffused throughout the entire city. To build a cultural project with associations and institutes operating in the sector. To produce a cultural path of low economical impact but high ethical and communicative contents.
